Welcome to our “Sponsor a Child project” This project gives you a unique opportunity to make a direct difference to the life of a traumatised child.

For over a century, the Durbanville Children’s Home, has opened its doors and hearts to destitute children.  Up to 144 children, who would otherwise have nowhere to turn, enjoy the benefits of a safe and loving refuge.

These children come from all over the Cape Peninsula. Most have suffered dreadful exposure to domestic violence, alcohol and/or drug abuse, sexual abuse, poverty and HIV/Aids – so much so that they were removed from their homes by court order issued in accordance with the Child Care Act.

Every year, however, due to rising costs of food, fuel, municipal services and other essentials, the Home faces greater challenges in order to continue providing for the basic needs of these youngsters.

It can cost the Home up to R4 000 per child per month depending upon the child’s particular needs regarding medical care, education, therapy and counselling.

The ‘Sponsor a Child Project’ offers a special involvement opportunity for individuals who are drawn to this cause.  Those able to provide full or partial sponsorship become ‘guardian angels’ for a specific child for the duration of his or her stay at the Home. We welcome contributions from R50 or more per month but even a one-off payment is most appreciated.

The ‘guardian angels’ receive newsletters and are given regular feedback on their child’s progress.  Understandably, to protect the child’s feelings, personal meetings with the children cannot be arranged.
