Family Day |
||
| On 28 May we hosted a very successful family day at the Durbanville Children’s Home. The purpose of this day was to give parents the opportunity to visit the Children’s Home, to see where their children are cared for and to spend time with them. This is also the day for the children to showcase their talents by performing in the family day concert or by proudly selling articles they made themselves, or by helping at the food tables. Family Day forms an integral part of the reunification project at the Home. |

The annual Durbanville Children’s Home Ball was held at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate on the 21 May 2011 and was a huge success. This festive occasion was the ideal opportunity for businesses to treat clients and friends to a scrumptious three course meal and excellent entertainment. To add more glamour to the event the theme was “Hollywood legends dressed in black and white”.
Rhebokskloof was the perfect venue for this unforgettable evening and the guests were treated to a sumptuous three course meal and estate wines. Local celebrities Toks van der Linde, Soli Philander, Michael Mol and Divan Serfontein added a further touch of class to the event. Our main sponsors for the evening were: |

The Care House for Individual Life Lesson Interventions (CHILLI) Unit was created at the Durbanville Children’s Home to address the urgent need for a safe and specially secured place where children who are either dependent on substances, presenting with deviant behaviour or maladjusted to life at the Home can be housed for therapeutic intervention. Previously the only course of action available was referral to youth care institutions with tighter security. Having this unit at the Children’s Home ensures a more homely set-up where children with problematic behaviour and/or substance dependency can be helped. The CHILLI Unit can accommodate 14 children (seven boys and seven girls). The only requirement is that the children are of school-going age.
We have entered into a partnership with Reflectionz to assist our children. Reflectionz is a company offering Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT), a new and unique form of growth and development. EAL/EAT is a client-centred process using horses to “teach” clients about themselves. It is experiential in nature – clients learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with horses on the ground. They discuss feelings, behaviours and patterns which might emerge. Clients are simultaneously engaged at a mental, physical and emotional level. They can immediately apply what they learn in the arena to their lives as it is a metaphorical process. There is NO horse riding involved and NO horse experience or knowledge is required. |
